With the West Indian American Day Parade just days away, food vendors are readying their best dishes, which includes shark for one longtime vendor, for hordes of hungry revelers.
visited the home of chef Wendy Regisford, who has been a vendor at the parade for the past nine years.
This year, she plans to make her "bake and shark" sandwiches, which are made of fried shark on homemade bread with plenty of toppings and sauces. She will also serve pholouries, which she describes as an Indian zeppoli served with homemade chutneys.
"You have the opportunity to share what you love and what you do with a lot of different islands and a lot of different people," says Regisford.
will have live coverage of the parade starting at 7:30 a.m. on Labor Day.
