Mourners attended the funeral Monday for the man who died after being tackled by workers at the Flatbush Stop & Shop store earlier this month.
Employees tackled Ralph Nimmons, 51, after he allegedly shoplifted something from the store on April 14, according to witnesses.
Nimmons had a heart condition, according to relatives, and the workers allegedly ignored his pleas for help.
The incident sparked protests and boycotts, and lawyers for Nimmons' family say they want the workers involved to face penalties.
Stop & Shop says it is cooperating with police in the investigation into the incident.
"We offer our sincere condolences to the family of Ralph Nimmons," the company said in a statement. "We are all saddened by his death."
Nimmons' family said they support the boycott of the supermarket chain and are angry Stop & Shop has not directly reached out to them.
The district attorney's office has opened an investigation into the matter.
