Two more people have claimed responsibility for last month's flag swap on the Brooklyn Bridge.

Two German artists told the New York Times that they replaced two American flags with bleached ones on July 22. The incident sparked major security concerns.

The artists, Matthias Wermke and Mischa Leinkauf, claim it had nothing to do with terrorism, saying they wanted to celebrate the "beauty of public space." They say they also wanted to commemorate the death of John Roebling, who was the architect of the bridge.

The NYPD says it's aware of the public statements made by the artists, and that the investigation remains ongoing. Mayor Bill de Blasio has reviewed video that the artists claim they took from the top of the bridge, and while he said he is not a law enforcement professional, it looks like trespassing.

De Blasio said that if they violated the law, the artists should be prosecuted.

No arrests have been made at this time.

Some residents that spoke with News 12 say they think the public overreacted to the stunt, while others want whoever is responsible to be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
