A little girl is dead and her pregnant mother injured after being hit by a minivan in Borough Park.
According to police, 22-year-old Bilal Ghumman has been arrested after striking the victims at 60th Street and 18th Avenue, not far from their home, at around 9 p.m. Tuesday.
The 33-year-old woman and her daughter, 10-year-old Blima Friedman, were rushed to Lutheran Medical Center in Sunset Park. The girl was pronounced dead on arrival.
Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section on the mother. Both she and the newborn are now in stable condition.
Officials say Ghumman remained on the scene, but was taken into custody for an outstanding warrant. He was also allegedly using the vehicle without permission from the valet company he works for.
Family, friends and community members gathered Wednesday for a funeral for the 10-year-old victim.
Ghumman is now facing a number of charges, including unauthorized use of a vehicle without owner consent and violation of local law.
The mother's name has not yet been released.
The investigation is still ongoing.
