Gov. Hochul outlines new plan to crack down on illegal marijuana sales

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced a new plan that will take action against the stores, delis and bodegas that sell unregulated marijuana behind the counter.
Her plan, which was announced on Friday, outlined three main points, the first of which authorizes the City Office of Cannabis Management to padlock stores that are selling unregulated cannabis.
There are also going to be bigger penalties for the landlords who turn a blind eye to tenants selling illegal marijuana, including a fine of up to $50,000.
Additionally, city laws were amended to allow faster action against these businesses.
“I’m using the power of the state budget to give us the tools we need at the state and local to shutter these illegal shops once and for all,” Hochul said.
The crackdown will also be helpful for legal dispensaries that sell regulated cannabis, she added.
