The city's Gowanus rezoning plan is moving forward, and it could mean some big changes over the next decade.

Council members spoke with News 12 about the city's plan for "an equitable, resilient and sustainable Gowanus," by way of rezoning.

They say a big part of the plan could bring thousands of new homes for low-income New Yorkers, along with new jobs, community spaces and cleaner shorelines.

The key difference about this plan is the fact that for the first time ever, a special task force has been created to ensure all points of agreement are actually carried out.

Those 56 points of agreement include $200 million for public housing.

Some community members filed a lawsuit against the rezoning, arguing the city did not consider the environmental consequences of the proposal.

The lawsuit was dismissed back in June.
