A fourth grade teacher in Brooklyn got a big Monday morning surprise from Schools Chancellor Meisha Ross Porter herself.
Over at P.S. 110 in Greenpoint, News 12 got a chance to go inside and see the moment Greenpoint teacher Jonathan Schulman was told he was chosen to be a 2021 recipient of a Big Apple Award.
The award is a prestigious honor given to outstanding educators. News 12 is told 11,300 nominations were submitted and carefully sifted through, and only 20 teachers were selected. Mr. Schulman is one of those 20 chosen to receive the honor.
Schulman was greeted by Porter, balloons and lots of support from his students. Porter tells News 12 that selecting Schulman to be a recipient this year was a no-brainer.
