New York voters will cast their primary votes on Sept. 12, and one group is aiming to get more women interested in politics.
This year marks 100 years since women in New York state have had the right to vote. The National Women's Political Caucus is celebrating this milestone with a new campaign called “Sheroes of New York.”
President of the organization Sharon Nelson says this election they have 12 women who are members running for various positions throughout the city.
The “Sheroes” campaign is bipartisan.
The goal of the group is to encourage more women to think about running for political office.
Nelson adds that while the push is to empower women to run, it is always important to look at all candidates and to keep an open mind.
Friday is the last day to register to vote in this year's primary.
