A new campaign is pushing for a greater focus on arts education in schools in the Bronx and the rest of the city. The Center for Arts Education, a non-profit organization, says it is worried that a new funding plan may eliminate arts education completely. It says principals will no longer be required to spend a specific portion of their budgets on the arts.A Department of Education official insists arts programs will be protected. The official admits principals will not have as many spending guidelines, but they will still be held accountable for all areas of education. The Center for Arts Education is scheduled to meet with about 50 government officials Monday to discuss funding for the arts.
