A new program to encourage hands-on learning and creativity among students was introduced at P.S. 188 in Coney Island.
An expo held Friday introduced fourth-graders to the many different classes in the program. Some choices for the students was gardening and chess. The children were then asked to choose their top three choices and will spend 12 weeks in each class. The number one choice among the kids was chocolate making.
School officials say P.S. 188 is the only Brooklyn elementary school with this program. The principal says he plans to extend this program to other grades over the next three years.
