Hauppauge held its first annual LGBT Job Fair Wednesday with the goal of adding diversity to the workforce.

David Kilmnick of the LGBT Network says they have heard from many people on Long Island that they want to move because they feel there's no place to work where they can be themselves.

"They feel a lot of discrimination, a lot of biases, a lot of microaggressions that exist in the workplace, and so to overcome that we need to be able to help Long Island businesses become more inclusive," Kilmnick said.

More than 30 recruiters met with 200 pre-registered LGBT job seekers.

Sgt. Quintell Howard, a recruiter for the U.S. Army, says it doesn't matter what their gender or sexual orientation is.

"We try to stand on the basis of being the most equal opportunity employer that the United States of America has to offer," Howard says.

"We're all people, and we should all have a fair shot of getting an opportunity with anyone that we want," says Lindenhurst resident Staci Weinsheimer.
