A Bronx family is mourning a 4-year-old who was fatally struck by a car in Queens this past Saturday.
Demonte McDonald was visiting Queens with his mom and family, when he was killed.
According to the NYPD, Demonte was on the sidewalk and ran into the street between two parked cars as the Toyota RAV4  was coming down the road. The vehicle, operated by a 33-year-old man, struck both the 4-year-old and his mother after his mother ran out into the street to try and save him.
The two were rushed to Long Island Jewish Cohen’s Hospital, where Demonte was pronounced dead.
“He was just like a regular 4-year-old,” said Demonte’s mother Shanice Stewart. “He was just so happy all the time.”
Stewart suffered multiple breaks in her left foot.
Candles and balloons cover the ground outside of the apartment where McDonald lived.
There is no information on whether the driver of the RAV4 is facing any charges. The family says they plan to have the funeral some time next week.
