Hundreds of Midwood residents are being forced to deal with high temperatures without water Thursday.
Tenants of several buildings on Ocean Avenue received a notice that the water will be shut off for eight hours while construction gets underway. Residents want the city to postpone the work until after the heat wave. Some say they take multiple cold showers to keep cool, while others use the tap water to stay hydrated.
The Department of Design and Construction says in part, when a water shut off notice is displayed, it usually means a water main is being replaced. The department adds the water should be back on by the end of the work shift.
