The mother of an off-duty state correctional officer says it took the medical examiner’s office a full month to release the body of her son.
Gracie Spinks is the mother of 28-year-old Eden Spinks Jr., who police say was found in a car on Jan. 2 with a gunshot wound to his head.
“At that night, the police department told us it was a suicide...a cut and dry suicide,” said Gracie Spinks.
This is information, she says she is not willing to accept.
“We have proof that there’s motive behind it,” said Gracie Spinks. “We also submitted paperwork to get the autopsy report. We submitted this paperwork, but they’re not letting us know as to why the body cannot be released.”
News 12 cameras were rolling when the family called the medical examiner’s office Tuesday once again, where they were told his body could be picked up as there was “no hold on the case.”
The family says they are looking to find a sense of comfort and peace.
“I want to see him and put him to rest,” said Gracie Spinks.
News 12 reached out to the medical examiner’s office for answers as to why it took so long and has not heard back yet.
Police tell News 12 it is an open investigation at this time.
