Community leaders in the 73rd Precinct say more illegal guns are being taken off the streets and handed over to police.
According to Tony Herbert and Mike Tucker, they were given two semi-automatic weapons last week, which were then turned into authorities. They also recovered a bag of ammunition.
State Sen. Eric Adams also joined Herbert to turn in a sawed-off shotgun, which was surrendered to the founder of the Brownsville Increase the Peace Basketball Tournament.
Activists say the gun surrenders are proof that neighborhood organizations can have a positive effect on gun violence.
