Tuesday night marked the beginning of Hanukkah.
Jewish community members celebrated the festival of lights, which started at sundown for the next eight days.
Mayor Bill de Blasio was on hand to light the first candle on the menorah in front of Prospect Park at Grand Army Plaza.
Organizers say the goal is to bring awareness to the holiday and its universal message of increasing light to eliminate any darkness.
