The fifth suspect accused of taking part in a gang rape of an 18-year-old female inside Osborn Playground is in custody, according to police.
Police say they took custody of the 17-year-old shortly before 12 p.m. Tuesday, and the NYPD Special Victims Unit questioned him for much of the day.
The other teens were transferred to the courthouse to face a judge. They declined to comment to the media when led out of the police building on the way to court.
Police accuse 14-year-old Denzel Murray, 15-year-old Shaquell Cooper, 15-year-old Ethan Phillip and 17-year-old Onandi Brown, along with another 17-year-old, of taking turns raping the victim inside the park on Jan. 7, where she had been walking with her father.
All of the suspects face charges of rape, criminal sex acts and sexual abuse.
Lawyers for four of them said they were not guilty Tuesday. Their lawyers say the victim could not identify them from a lineup or photographs. A judge set bails ranging from $10,000 to $50,000
The victim and her father were reportedly walking through the Brownsville park around 9 p.m. Thursday when the group approached them. In court, prosecutors said one of the suspects pointed a gun at the father and ordered him to leave. The father told police he complied, and that's when the sexual assaults began.
Police say the victim's father went to a bodega and requested to use the phone to call 911, but workers there allegedly refused him.
Witnesses say both the father and the daughter appeared to be intoxicated that evening.
The father eventually flagged down two police officers, who returned to the scene about 15 minutes later, but the suspects had left. Police transported the daughter to a nearby hospital.
