A judge has requested to see the videotaped confession of the Greenpoint warehouse fire suspect to determine if bail should be granted.
Leszek Kuczera, a Polish immigrant, is accused of igniting the 10-alarm blaze that destroyed the Greenpoint warehouse complex. Kuczera?s lawyer says his client was working on a camp ground in upstate New York at the time of the fire. However, a Brooklyn prosecutor says three witnesses can place Kuczera in Brooklyn the week of the fire.
Kuczera was indicted on June 15 on charges of setting the blaze. He has denied he confessed to starting the fire and claims the Polish-speaking authorities that interrogated him after his arrest misunderstood him. Kuczera is currently being held at Rikers Island.
