The Bed-Stuy community came together Saturday to celebrate their own version of the Olympics by letting kids and cops face off in some friendly competition.
The event featured field games like red-light green light, football, capture the flag, as well as musical performances and dance competitions. The event also allowed kids to have positive interactions with the NYPD Community Affairs office.
Organizers from NYPD told News12 that the event helps to raise the moral and relationship between the department and the community that they serve.
"Now we can all come out together and let the kids know that we are one big family, andyou can't play us against each other, then that's what helps us come through..." said NYPD Community Ambassador Lauren Sylvester. She added that the events like these are a key part of the NYPD's community policing goals.
The event also saw the police competing against the teens in that dance-off competition that featured "old school" songs against newer TikTok dancing trends.
Organizers said they were thrilled with the turnout and hope to have more events like it in the future.
