A Kings County emergency room doctor is mentoring Brooklyn students to help reduce violence in the city.
Fort Greene native Dr. Rob Gore started the nonprofit Kings Against Violence Initiative (KAVI) to help students learn how to effectively handle conflict and develop skills to prepare them for success inside and outside of the classroom.
“Helping people heal and helping people understand is a major step in the road to recovery in people who are experiencing and have been impacted by violent trauma,” said Gore.
KAVI helps young people at Wingate Educational Campus and other schools in Brooklyn through weekly mentoring sessions.
