It's "the end" for a bookstore in South Bronx as its owner says she can no longer afford to keep running the store. Laverne Harris has owned Books In The Hood for the past four years. She says the bills kept piling up because people in the neighborhood couldn't afford to buy books and she started using her own Social Security payments to try to keep the shop open. Harris says she's looking for other venues to continue holding the book signings and poetry readings that her shop was known for. She says she's also considering opening an online bookstore.
