A local lawmaker is continuing to push for a restaurant grading system for eateries in Brooklyn and the rest of the city.Sen. Jeffrey Klein (D-Bronx, Westchester) wants the state's health department to translate its rating system into a uniform letter-grading system. He says the change would make it easier for citizens to understand how restaurants did during their last inspection. The senator says the change would force a restaurant to continually monitor itself. Sen. Klein claims a restaurant with a visible failing grade will work hard to improve since customers would choose not to eat there. In 2005, three restaurants in Brooklyn landed on the list of worst restaurants in the city. In 2006, Klein says there were four restaurants in the borough on the list.Among the four restaurants on the list were El Reencuentro coffee shop and deli and the Canarsie Coffee and Deli, each with more than 100 violation points.Related information: Click here for reportNew York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene
