More than 100 people are displaced after a lightning strike sparked a massive four-alarm fire overnight in East Flatbush, firefighters say.
All occupants of a six-story apartment building on Rockaway Parkway evacuated just after 1 a.m.
Several minor injuries were reported among the 168 firefighters who responded.
Residents told the FDNY that they heard a boom and saw a flash before the fire began.
Investigators say most of the damage was contained to the top two floors, but many of the apartments were filled with smoke and water, and will require major repairs.
The Red Cross has opened a reception center at P.S. 219 for about 150 displaced residents. It is providing food and beverages, along with health and emotional support.
