A local soup kitchen is busy cooking up a storm after businesses gave the struggling service a helping hand.
Greenpoint's Church of Ascension has served as a soup kitchen on Saturdays for about 15 years. Recently, the church has been struggling to keep its soup kitchen open due to financial problems.
This past year, local restaurant owner Josh Cohen teamed up with the business Broadway Stages to provide food, equipment and their time. Previously, diners were served soup and sandwiches, but now they are able to chow down on meals including gourmet chicken, vegetables and more.
The businesses say they will continue to help the church for as long as they can, hoping to inspire other businesses to pitch in as well.
