A two-day medical supply drive for Israeli soldiers is being held at the Suffolk Y JCC in Commack and the Mid-Island Y JCC in Plainview.

The items being collected include first-aid kits, bandages and cold packs. Fran Shapiro, of Saint James, said the cause “is extremely important” to her because her grandson is fighting in Israel.

Many Long Islanders have loved ones in Israel. Rick Lewis, CEO of the Suffolk and Mid-Island Y JCCs, told News 12, “It’s a very, very stressful time for everybody. Unfortunately, the degrees of separation are much less than six in this particular area.”

Mallory Kant, of Commack, donated supplies.

“It’s very important that we help them. They need all the help they can get right now," she says.

The drive will continue on Friday, its second and final day, from 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.

The addresses of the drop-off locations are: 74 Hauppauge Road in Commack and 45 Manetto Hill Road in Plainview.

Donated items must be new.

The medical supplies will be sent to the AFYA Foundation, which will then send them to Israel.
