Loved ones and community members came together in Wingate Park in East Flatbush Saturday to remember a man who they say would have given his last dollar to anyone in need.
Chris Ross was fatally shot last month, and the shooter remains on the loose. His family tells News 12 that the father of four was struck in the head by a stray bullet. It happened as he was on one of the handball courts back on Aug. 9 shortly before 6 p.m.
The 53-year-old loved to play handball, and that's what he was doing the day he died, his family says.
Loved ones say he enjoyed Labor Day and barbecues, so they gathered at the park this weekend to hold a fun way to honor him. But the gathering also aimed to spread a message to young people to stop the violence and put down the guns.
Ross' family is also calling for cameras in the park, which they believe could have prevented the crime.
The NYPD says the case remains under investigation.
