Family, friends and loved ones held a vigil on Saturday for a teen stabbed to death in East New York.
The incident occurred at around 10:30 p.m. Friday at the corner of Linwood Street and Stanley Avenue.
Her family identified the 18-year-old victim as Tanaya Grant Copeland.
On Saturday, the community released balloons, held signs and lit candles to honor Copeland's life.
The girl's mother, Rochelle Copeland, says she was walking home from a friend's house when she was stabbed in the neck, back and abdomen. She was later pronounced dead at Brookdale Hospital.
Copeland's mother says her daughter, who was an avid drummer, was hanging out with friends after band practice before her death.
She says her daughter was openly gay and questions whether the brutal attack was random or not.
No arrests have been made. Police are investigating what lead to the stabbing.
Community advocates are offering a $2,000 reward for any information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case.
Family members also say they are raising money for a funeral.
