The Lviv National Philharmonic Orchestra of Ukraine held a special performance at Lehman College in the Bronx on Sunday.
The audience at the Lehman Center for Performing Arts agreed that the orchestra gives a world class performance but also agreed the day was about more than just music.
The performance took place just before the one-year mark since Russia first invaded the musicians' home country.
Organizers said the performance is about both sharing Ukrainian culture and ensuring that the war is still on the minds of people in the United States.
"There was something very special about this… we are the home team and they are taking great risk to come here," said Thomas Crawford, the director of the American Classical Orchestra.
Attendees also said that it was important to watch them perform as a form of moral and emotional support for the war-ravaged country.
The orchestra still has a couple more weeks to tour before the musicians head back to their families in Ukraine.
