One man has been arrested and another is on the run after an attempted theft in Ditmas Park on Friday turned into a violent altercation with police.
Officials say that an officer saw two men stealing the tires off a parked car on East 19th Street on Friday. When the suspects tried to drive off, they crashed into a parked car, and police arrested the passenger, 26-year-old Corey Prescod.
Police say the driver, 25-year-old Arthur Whaley, got out and threatened the officer with a knife. The officer fired a shot at him, but Whaley got away. It's unclear whether or not he was hit. Whaley is believed to be around 5 feet 8 inches tall and weigh 150 pounds.
Anyone with information on any of these incidents is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.
