A 20-year-old man has been charged with vehicular manslaughter after a police chase that ended in Baychester killed his passenger and left him injured.
According to police, the pursuit started when the two suspects, Francisco Santana-Pena and Starling Santana, were caught stealing tires from a Honda dealership in New Rochelle. Police followed them in a high-speed pursuit down I-95 into Baychester, where the suspects crashed into two parked cars on Gavan Avenue.
Santana-Pena, 24, died on impact, while the FDNY had to use the Jaws of Life to free Santana, who is now in critical condition at Jacobi Medical Center.
