Authorities say a man who allegedly attacked two women with an ax is now charged with murder.
Jerry Brown, 34, of East Williamsburg is charged with murder, attempted murder and assault. Prosecutors say Brown severely injured his 21-year-old girlfriend and killed her pregnant friend, 20-year-old Savannah Rivera, on April 20.
Officials say the girlfriend's 4-year-old daughter was found unharmed inside the same apartment.
District Attorney Eric Gonzalez says, "These horrifying alleged actions have traumatized two families and shocked our community. I intend to prosecute this case vigorously and hold the defendant responsible for the violent crimes with which he is charged."
Brown will be held without bail and will return to court on Aug. 9. He faces up to 25 years in prison if convicted.
