Police shot an armed man to end a wild chase in Crown Heights Wednesday, according to officials.
The pursuit came to a head at around 12:30 p.m. near the intersection of Empire Boulevard and Brooklyn Avenue, police say.
Kareem Thomas, a 24-year-old Brooklyn man, was allegedly driving erratically in a Ford Mustang when an NYPD officer noticed and began following him.
When the officer attempted to pull Thomas over, police say he sped off and eventually ran into traffic and crashed into a truck.
They say Thomas exited the moving car and ran. Officers chased Thomas, who allegedly aimed a gun at them.
Investigators say officers shot Thomas twice. He reportedly dropped the gun after the first shot, but an officer fired again when he tried to pick it up.
The officers recovered the gun and took Thomas into custody. He's expected to recover from his wounds.
Police say they believe Thomas is a gang member with more than a dozen arrests on his record.
He may also be a suspect in a shooting from several months ago, police say. The investigation is ongoing.
