Jay-Z will headline the 2027 Super Bowl Halftime show.
He grew up at the Marcy Houses in Bed-Stuy.
Ruth Wright say she can't wait.
“Those who don’t watch the Super Bowl will definitely be watching it now. The tenants and residents will definitely be watching it . Definitely. They might put a big screen outside," said Wright.
Tony Lopez says he's lived at the Marcy Houses for more than 50 years and remembers the rapper.
“He’s a good guy very good. He never changed, he’s still the same. He still cracks jokes and all that he’s still Jay Z," said Lopez.
Lopez says the performance represents the community.
"He represents us. And when he's there, he's representing us. So it's like we there," said Lopez.
This past summer, Jay-Z performed multiple shows at Yankee Stadium celebrating 30 years of his career. Wright says his New York roots are an inspiration in more ways than one.
“I felt that he was going to put Marcy back on the map once again. He's putting notice to our neighborhood and we need a lot of things here. And this gives people the incentive to see that, you know, I'm saying you can come from humble beginnings and still make it up out here," said Wright.
The Super Bowl is on Feb. 14.
