A teen from Marine Park has been nominated as a finalist in the Young Arts Foundation.
David Icon, 17, says he’s been in front of a camera for as long as he can remember.
He said he started as a child model and actor at 11 years old. Since then, he says he’s had to work hard to begin his successful acting journey.
“I did an episode of ‘New Amsterdam’ on NBC, the hospital show, I did an episode of ‘NCIS New Orleans,’ but those roles were a bit smaller than the one I have in ‘The Good Doctor' coming up. So, it's not my first but probably one of my biggest on network TV,” says Icon.
Icon says he received a call from the Young Arts Foundation to learn that he was a finalist. He says as a finalist, he was treated with an all-expense paid trip.
“So, when they fly you out there in Miami for a week, they give you a week of workshops and intense classes with really well-trained teachers,” says Icon.
Icon’s father says family support is the key to success.

“Whatever their passion is, let them go with it, let them fulfill their dream. That's all you can do. Don't pressure them to be what you want them to be, let them be what they want to be,” says David Icon Sr.

Icon says his spot in “The Good Doctor” is one of several roles he'll play in 2020.
