Mayor Bill de Blasio was in Brooklyn Thursday to talk about a number of issues, including a possible pilot program in which NYPD officers would wear body cameras while they are on duty.
In a news conference on expanding full-day pre-kindergarten enrollment, Mayor de Blasio spoke of a potential trial run of the cameras.
The mayor said the pilot program will tell officials whether the cameras are something that can be used on a bigger scale. He says his team is fully committed to the pilot and he thinks there is real promise in the idea.
Mayor de Blasio also said that some issues may arise with the new cameras. Data storage and confidentiality issues may arise, which is why he says his team wants to move forward with the pilot program.
