Mayor Bill de Blasio says that as long as people protest in a peaceful and nonviolent way, it's the city's job to manage the crowds.
Thousands have taken to the streets citywide since a grand jury announced its decision not to indict the police officer who put Eric Garner in an apparent chokehold before his death.
However, he did warn that anyone who goes against the peaceful demonstrations and provokes violence can expect an immediate arrest and prosecution.
He said in part that acts of violence, "Undermine the very values these protests are working to advance, and they simply will not be tolerated."
