Mayor de Blasio and his wife joined NYC Police Commissioner Bill Bratton to visit the families of NYPD Officer Rafael Ramos and Officer Wenjian Liu Monday morning. Both officers were killed in an ambush shooting while they were in their patrol car over the weekend.
They did not speak to the media after spending time with the Ramos family in Cypress Hill, but News 12 is told they spent about 30 minutes inside.
Officer Ramos was just 40 years old and left behind a wife and two children. The aunt of Ramos spoke to the media Sunday, but the family is asking for privacy as they mourn the death of their loved one.
The city officials then visited Officer Liu's family in Gravesend. The NYPD is working to get the slain officer's family in China to the United States to be part of his funeral services.
Mayor de Blasio and Commissioner Bratton have asked city residents to put aside protests until after the funerals for Ramos and Liu.
