? The City Council held a hearing Thursday to decide what youth services may have to run on reduced budgets.
The hearing comes after Mayor Michael Bloomberg?s (R-NY) preliminary budget showed a 23 percent decrease in funding for youth activities for the 2007 fiscal year. A summer youth employment program and after-school programs could be directly affected. The employment program gives 42,000 Brooklyn and city teens jobs each year.
City Council members say they feel the mayor?s proposed budget cuts to youth programs will not happen.
