Some members of Midwood?s Pakistani community feel a new liquor store is disrespectful to them because it opened near a mosque.
Protesters say they will no longer picket outside the Coney Island Avenue store because it may give the owner more business, but they plan to make their concerns known. Leaders say in addition to the liquor store being near a mosque, a daycare center is on the same block.
State inspectors say the store is more than 350 feet away from the mosque and New York law only requires a 200-foot distance. The owner hopes to continue doing business in the Pakistani community, despite the dispute.
