Edward R. Murrow High School in Midwood showcased its diversity with a special event on Tuesday.
More than 1,000 teachers, students and parents surrounded the school to do "the wave" to celebrate their diversity.
According to the city Department of Education, nearly two-thirds of the school's students come from diverse backgrounds and about 18 percent have special needs -- far higher than the city average.
The school's first-ever "diversity wave" was conceived by Theresa-Ann Crivelli, a physical education teacher.
