A Brooklyn mother says her son has gone missing for a second time after walking out of a facility run by the state Health Department .
Sheepshead Bay resident Fredda Anhalt says her 53-year-old son, Wayne Anhalt, went missing on Monday, Jan. 18. She says he battles mental illness and has been living at Kings Adult Care Center for years.
The New York state Department of Health operates the facility on Cropsey Avenue and declined to comment since this is an active investigation. However, adult homes are required to have appropriate staff to care for each resident's needs.
Anhalt says this isn't the first time her son left the facility and went missing for days. This time, she says she is hoping someone might spot her son and bring him back home.
"He has no identification on him, no cellphone, no money, and he has on an old, ripped jacket that's probably not keeping him warm," Anhalt says. "I'm really concerned because I don't know where he could be, how he could be warm or what he's eating."
Wayne Anhalt is 6 feet tall and heavyset. The facility reported him missing to police as required by state law ,and the NYPD is investigating.
