The mother of Eric Garner is outraged and disappointed after a judge ruled Friday that the inquiry into her son's death will be held virtually.
Garner was killed seven years ago during an arrest on Staten Island. Video showed Garner being put in a chokehold by former NYPD officer Daniel Pantaleo, who was removed from the NYPD several years later following a department trial.
Gwenn Carr, Garner's mom, and former New York state Chief Deputy Attorney General Alvin Bragg wanted the inquiry to be postponed until it could be held in person.
"There is nothing like having your day in court," says Bragg. "We mean that - physically in court."
The hearing will be held on Oct. 25. The judge stated that the courts are not prepared to go forward in person with the trial due to capacity and COVID-19 restrictions.
Carr says she is disappointed and wanted it to be held when it could be in person.
"Virtual is not going to be anything near what it would mean if it was in person," says Carr.
Bragg and attorney Oliver Gideon say even though it will be virtual, justice will be served.
