A Bridgeport woman celebrated what she calls a Mother's Day miracle after an accident left her baby in critical condition.

It was 10 months ago that 32-year-old Markeda Dennis came close to losing her then 7-month-old daughter when an accident turned the family's life upside down.

Dennis said her 12-year-old daughter was carrying the baby, whose name is Kulture, when she tripped and fell onto the child with all of her weight.

"Kulture's head hit the floor with my 12-year-old falling on top of her," Dennis explained.

Her baby daughter was on a respirator in the intensive care unit clinging to life at Yale New Haven Hospital. The doctors to shared with Dennis a grim prognosis.

"Best case scenario, she would wake up as a vegetable, basically, with no sign or quality of life," Dennis recalled.

But Dennis said she turned to her faith and to her church family, and soon saw a reason to hope.

Dennis said her baby surprised everyone when she opened her eyes, then went on to make a near full recovery.

"So, I automatically knew because the Lord told me," she said.

"She dug deep, she got on her knees, she prayed, the church was praying with her, we stood with her and today we have baby Kulture with us," Rev. Curtis Baldwin of Gateway to Heaven Ministries explained.

Dennis released a book this Mother's Day called "Now Faith" that recounts her inspirational story about the power of prayer.

She said it's been a long journey, but she has not been walking it alone. She hopes others will be inspired by her message of hope and celebrate with her.

"Mother's Day 2021 has been the greatest Mother's Day I've ever had," Dennis said.
