MTA may relocate Bushwick residents near M line
Dozens of Bushwick residents may be displaced while the MTA does work on its M line.
The residents and businesses that may be affected live along Myrtle Avenue.
Workers at Harvest Cyclery, one of the dozens of business and homes that may be affected, say the relocation could really hurt their business.
"It's kind of hard to do, with moving and getting set and being happy and then getting a foothold and having to do it all over again potentially," says manager Jarad Needham.
MTA officials say they may have to relocate people in the area for 6 to 10 months because the planned work includes razing and rebuilding a 300-foot viaduct.
The MTA says it has contacted all of the residents who will be affected and will soon start conducting individual meetings.
"We understand the serious inconvenience that each of these individuals are likely to experience in order to allow us to undertake this critical infrastructure project, and we will do everything we can to minimize the distress," the MTA said in a statement.
The residents could be displaced by the summer of 2017.
