The MTA has moved some subway construction equipment out of Pelham Bay just in time for the holidays.

Construction has consumed Westchester Avenue since July. The Buhre Avenue and Zerga Avenue train stations have been out of commission during the $109 million renewal program along the Pelham line.

The lack of parking that came along with the project has had Bronx residents extremely annoyed. According to Bronx Councilman Jimmy Vacca's office, the MTA has relocated its equipment and materials to temporarily free up parking so that local businesses can bounce back during the holiday season.

Costinos Mouzakitis, of Georges Restaurant, says he is relieved that there is now more space for customers to park. He estimates that the construction has hurt around 40 percent of the restaurant's business.

Reports claim that the construction equipment will be moved back around Jan. 2. The entire project was supposed to be completed by February, but residents say they are now being told that it won't be finished until March.
