7ds agoThe Metropolitan Transportation Authority hosted its regular board meeting Wednesday to allow the public to weigh in on the plan to remove station agents from their booths starting Thursday.
MTA officials say 2,200 agents will work outside customer service centers and around the station to help out New Yorkers. They say workers have felt disconnected from customers working from behind the plexiglass for decades.
Officials say the agents have safety training and will be given cellphones that they can use to call for help if needed.
The booths will not be gone for good. They will still be used as a place where workers can take breaks. There will also be three customer service centers posted at three subway stations including Myrtle Wyckoff in Brooklyn.
