Police are searching for the man who they said assaulted and robbed an MTA employee on a Brooklyn C train.

Investigators said the attack happened Sunday just before 3 p.m. at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn streets subway station, which is also where the NYPD’s Transit District 30 is located.

The victim, a 31-year-old woman, was on-duty and operating a southbound C train.

Sources said the train was stationary, and the operator was making an announcement when the attacker punched her in the face through the train cabin, then he took her train keys and took off.

The victim was taken to a hospital with pain and swelling in her face, but she is expected to be OK.

Riders told News 12 on Tuesday that they’re not surprised by the attack.

“There’s just no respect no more,” said Steven Williams. “Everybody needs money, the economy is bad, and people do wrong things.”

“Always around the holidays, and things like that, people do just nefarious things,” said Catherine Hunt.

Sources told News 12 that the suspect was last seen wearing a tan sweatshirt, black jacket and carrying shopping bags. Anyone with information about the suspect is urged to call police.

NYC Transit President Demetrius Crichlow issued a statement:

“Transit employees should never be subject to such outrageous attacks. It’s unacceptable and I have confidence that our law enforcement partners will find this perpetrator who must then face the maximum consequences under the law.”
