A Metropolitan Transportation Authority employee was hospitalized Saturday after an explosion at the Nostrand Avenue train stop on the 3 train line.
Fire officials say the explosion was caused by a short on the third rail. The short knocked one of the workers off the platform, breaking his leg.
?They shorted out a watt with high current that caused an explosion that blew him onto the tracks and looks like he broke his leg,? FDNY Lt. Frank Macchia says.
According to the fire chief, the injured worker was moved from the tracks before he was burned. Firefighters extinguished the flames before any other people were injured.
Officials say the 3 train will be out of service until Tuesday.
