Multiple families have been displaced by a fire in a Van Nest apartment building Sunday morning.
Firefighters arrived at 591 Van Nest Avenue at 6:20 a.m., according to an alert from the FDNY. The fire was reportedly under control by 6:50 a.m.
A father who lived in the building told News 12’s Samantha Chaney that his family was woken up by the sound of firefighters breaking out the windows of a second-floor unit. The man added that his home, which is on the first floor, now has severe water damage. He says his family does not know what to do or where to go next.
The FDNY has not officially confirmed a cause of the fire.
