Neighbors are mourning the loss of a 44-year-old man who was fatally shot and then dismembered in Highbridge.
Collin Small was killed by 48-year-old Sheldon Johnson, according to authorities.
Police say Johnson was inside Small’s apartment when officers knocked on the door to do a wellness check. He told them Small had gone upstate.
Not long after, the NYPD says they found Small’s torso and feet in a blue bin
inside the apartment. Prosecutors say other body parts were in bags in Small’s freezer.
The victim’s neighbor told News 12 that Small was a good man who will be missed.
"It's going to be heartbreaking walking past that door every day,” she said. “It's just going to be an empty feeling now that it's covered with such dark energy. I just wanted to put out there that he had a great energy about him."
The medical examiner is still working to determine Small's cause of death, according to authorities.
Police say Johnson is facing multiple charges, including murder. He was remanded in court Friday without bail. He is due back in court on Monday.
